Gordon Motion, Master Whisky Maker at Highland Park, has had the honorable responsibility of selecting and assembling the casks that today constitute this exclusive expression. Only one cask combination has been chosen and bottled in just 274 bottles worldwide – each one signed by Motion himself.

Flavor Profile – Refined and Harmonious

Highland Park 50 YO is a Single Malt with a light peaty smoke that is marked by deep complexity and balance. The color is a deep autumnal reddish brown – a first sign of its age and depth.

Aroma:
The whisky opens with elegant aromas of ripe black cherries, sweet muscovado sugar and sun-ripened peaches – mixed with dark chocolate, hints of new leather and soft peat smoke.

Taste:
On the palate, a refined flavour profile of exotic spices, candied orange peel, toasted oak and ripe apricot unfolds, bringing an intense yet delicate sweetness. A persistent finish of dry spices and dark espresso coffee is rounded off with an aromatic smoke.

A Piece of Living History

The story behind Highland Park 50 YO begins in 1968, when nine refill casks were laid down. In 2008, they were collected and re-filled into sherry-seasoned oak casks. After 12 years of harmonization, Gordon Motion selected a single European oak cask to be married with the previous 50 year batch from 2018 – created for this unique edition.

This whisky is the result of nearly five decades of patience and uncompromising dedication. Its complex layers of flavour and deep character tell a quiet but powerful story of time, craftsmanship and Orkney's unique climate.
