This bottle captures the essence of the wild nature of the Orkney Islands. Unfiltered and without the addition of water, the whisky is tapped directly from the cask with an alcohol percentage of 64.1%. The high alcohol content gives you the opportunity to adjust with water yourself – and thereby explore the many unique nuances and layers of the whisky.
Aroma and Taste
The scent opens with notes of smoldering peat smoke and lightly charred oak. The distinct smoke is balanced by sweet elements such as honey-glazed lemon and crushed anise. As the whisky hits the tongue, it reveals rich and rounded flavours of ripe mango, light heather honey and whipped vanilla cream. The aroma of violets and a bitter edge of pink grapefruit peel add depth, while a hint of freshly baked sponge cake leads to a complex and long finish with floral and smoky undertones.
A Masterful Combination of Dishes
Gordon Motion, Highland Park’s Master Whisky Maker, has chosen a combination of first-fill sherry casks of both American and European oak, with a smaller proportion of refill casks, which subtly round out the dominant notes. This adds depth without overpowering the natural expression of the smoky Orkney malt, which is present in a higher proportion in this release.
