The first release in Macallan’s exclusive Concept series, Macallan Concept Number 1 is inspired by surrealist art – something that is reflected in both the bottle design and the whisky’s composition. It is matured in sherry-seasoned oak casks and then in ex-bourbon casks for the same period – an unconventional approach that adds extra depth and complexity.
The whisky has a stunning golden amber colour and appears unsmoked, making it both accessible and complex at the same time. On the nose, notes of sweet caramel, almond, ginger and cinnamon are discernible, as well as hints of dried fruit, citrus and green banana. The taste is round and smooth with distinct notes of sweet orange and lemon, spicy oak and fresh fruit with a pleasant warmth from ginger.
