Manhattan Cocktail
How to Make a Manhattan Cocktail with The Macallan 12 YO Double Cask
A Manhattan is a classic cocktail that combines the rich flavor of whiskey with sweet vermouth and bitters for a perfect balance between sweetness and depth.
By using The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask, you lift the cocktail to a new level, as this whiskey brings elegant notes of vanilla, spices and dried fruit, which harmonize beautifully with the other ingredients of the cocktail.
Ingredients:
- 50 ml The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask
- 25 ml sweet vermouth (e.g. Martini Rosso or Carpano Antica Formula)
- 2-3 splashes of Angostura bitters
- Ice cubes
- An orange peel or cocktail cherry for decoration
How to do it:
-
Chill your glass : Start by filling a martini glass or lowball glass with ice or place it in the freezer for a few minutes so it's nice and cold when you're ready to serve.
-
Mix the ingredients : In a shaker or mixing glass, add 50ml The Macallan 12 YO Double Cask , 25ml sweet vermouth , and 2-3 splashes of Angostura bitters .
-
Add ice : Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes and stir gently for about 20-30 seconds. Stirring instead of shaking the cocktail helps to cool and dilute it slightly without making it watery.
-
Pour up : Remove the ice from your glass if you used ice to chill it, then strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled glass.
-
Garnish : Finish your Manhattan with either an orange peel (twist it over the glass to release the oils) or a classic cocktail cherry as a garnish. Both add an extra dimension to the taste and appearance of your cocktail.
Tip:
- If you want a slightly sweeter version, you can add an extra splash of sweet vermouth.
- You can also experiment with other bitters, such as orange bitters, to add a new nuance to the cocktail.
