About the Wine House in La Horra and the History of Viña Sastre

La Horra , a small village of just 400 inhabitants in the northern part of Ribera del Duero , is known for its high quality grapes and has a special place in Spain's wine production.

The town is located on high, hilly terrain, which gives the vineyards a rich variety of sun exposure and optimal conditions for growing the Tempranillo grape. With over 75% of the municipality's area planted with vineyards, wine is the main livelihood for the locals. Previously, most winegrowers sold their grapes to cooperatives, but with Ribera del Duero's DO status in 1982, more wineries began to flourish.

The exclusive winery Viña Sastre , also known as Bodegas Hermanos Sastre, was founded in the 1990s. The Sastre family consisted of the father Rafael Sastre and his two sons, Jesus Maria and Pedro Sastre, who together worked purposefully to create exceptional wines. When Rafael died in 1998 and Pedro tragically died in 2002, Jesus Maria Sastre was left with the responsibility.

Despite the challenges, he continued to produce some of Spain's most acclaimed wines, supported by family friends and their strong shared passion.

Viña Sastre's Iconic Wines

Viña Sastre is known for three unique wines, each of which reflects the wine's history, quality and love for the terroir:

1. Pago de Santa Cruz – A tribute to tradition and history. Crafted with a focus on elegance and complexity, this wine is designed to stand the test of time.

2. Regina Vides – The queen of the vines, which delivers a deep and rich taste. This wine highlights the best of the vines of La Horra.

3. Pesus – A powerful and intense wine, dedicated to the memory of the brothers Pedro and Jesus Maria. Pesus is a tribute to the family's work and their love of wine.

Viña Sastre – Tradition, Passion and High Quality

Since the beginning, Viña Sastre has managed to position itself as one of the best wine houses in Ribera del Duero. With countless accolades, including the nomination for winery of the year by Decanter in 2010, Viña Sastre remains a leading star of Spanish wine production. The rich flavor notes and the intense character in the wines are a result of Jesus Maria Sastre's uncompromising approach to quality and respect for the unique terroir of La Horra.

Viña Sastre and their wines represent Ribera del Duero at its best. With the combination of tradition, innovation and dedication to the fields, they have achieved the status of an iconic winery whose wines can be enjoyed by both collectors and wine lovers worldwide.
