The Macallan celebrates its 200th anniversary with a Cirque du Soleil experience

To celebrate its 200th anniversary, The Macallan has partnered with Cirque du Soleil to create a bespoke experience: Cirque du Soleil SPIRIT. The historic distillery began its anniversary celebrations last month with the release of 73-year single malt Tales of The Macallan Volume II.

The event will run from 9 to 31 May 2024, held at The Macallan Estate in Speyside, Scotland.

Cirque du Soleil SPIRIT is described as a sensory experience that will take visitors on "a journey through tastes, smells, sounds and emotions." It will follow Ayla, a dyer and daughter of a master whiskey maker, and Davonna, the spiritual protector of the Scottish Highlands. The performance is inspired by Scottish folklore and the country's rich whiskey heritage.

A theme of reconnection with nature runs throughout the story. According to Marie-Hélène Delage, creative director at Cirque Du Soleil, SPIRIT is ultimately "a narrative that celebrates the beauty, wonder and deep connection we all share with the natural world."

Jaume Ferràs, creative director at The Macallan, described the collaboration as: “Bridging the art of whiskey making and the spectacle of the performing arts creates an unforgettable experience deeply rooted in the nature that surrounds us at The Macallan, our kingdom history, and our bold vision for the future.

"We look forward to welcoming guests from around the world to our property, where they will have the opportunity to experience an exclusive experience and a bespoke whiskey tasting surrounded by nature, all unique to The Macallan."
