Castillejos 2020 – El Bulli’s Former House Wine Has Arrived
A Wine with Greatness and Soul
Pouring a glass of Castillejos 2020 offers far more than just wine—it is a rare and memorable experience. This bottle was once the house wine at the legendary El Bulli restaurant. Now, you have the chance to experience that magic for yourself.
Wine with Depth and Finesse
Castillejos 2020 comes from the high-altitude slopes of the Sierra Nevada in Andalusia, where Bodegas Calvente cultivates vines at up to 1,100 metres above sea level. Here, rugged nature meets precision and passion, giving the wine its distinct character.
The wine is a balanced blend of Syrah, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 14–16 months in new oak barrels and a further 16 months in the bottle, it delivers a deep, well-integrated flavour profile that develops beautifully in the glass.
Tasting Notes
From the very first aroma, the complexity is obvious: dark berries, savoury spice, and a subtle touch of vanilla from the oak aging. On the palate, it is full-bodied and balanced with silky tannins, making it approachable now while holding great potential for cellaring. Great alongside slow-cooked stews, red meat, or simply enjoyed quietly by the fireplace.
A Winery with Heritage and Ambition
Bodegas Calvente is run by Horacio Calvente, who blends age-old winemaking traditions with modern techniques. Spanning just 23 hectares, this small family-owned winery works closely with nature to produce wines of outstanding quality—earning them a place on the wine lists of Spain's top restaurants and wine bars.
