What does récoltant-manipulant mean?
A récoltant-manipulant (RM) is a champagne producer who grows all their own grapes and makes their own champagne on the estate. Lucien Roguet does not buy grapes or base wines from outside sources — everything comes from the house's own Grand Cru vineyards in Mailly-Champagne.
What does Grand Cru mean in Champagne?
Grand Cru is the highest classification in Champagne's vineyard hierarchy. Only 17 out of nearly 320 communes in the region hold this status. Mailly-Champagne is one of them, and all of Lucien Roguet's grapes come exclusively from this terroir.
Which grape varieties does Lucien Roguet use?
The house works with the three classic Champagne grapes: Pinot Noir (approximately 60%), Chardonnay (approximately 30%), and Pinot Meunier (approximately 10%). All are grown on Grand Cru-classified land in Mailly-Champagne.
Is Lucien Roguet champagne sustainably produced?
Yes. Samuel Roguet practises responsible and sustainable viticulture and holds both VDC certification (Viticulture Durable en Champagne) and HVE certification (Haute Valeur Environnementale) — France's highest environmental certification for agriculture.
How is Lucien Roguet different from the large champagne houses?
Where major houses like Moët & Chandon and Taittinger source grapes from many different villages, Lucien Roguet is a small, family-run estate that uses only grapes from its own 7 hectares. This produces a champagne with a very clear, pure terroir signature from a single Grand Cru.
What is Alcaloïde 2020?
Alcaloïde is a limited-edition Grand Cru Vintage Rosé from the 2020 harvest, produced in only 720 bottles. It is a rare release that combines floral aromatics with intensity and depth.
Does Lucien Roguet age wines in oak?
Yes. Samuel Roguet uses oak barrels for ageing reserve wines, which adds extra complexity and depth to the final blends — without overpowering the fresh, elegant house style.
