How to Make a Manhattan Cocktail with The Macallan 12 YO Double Cask
A Manhattan is a classic cocktail that brings together the rich flavour of whisky, sweet vermouth, and bitters for a great balance between sweetness and depth.
Using The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask takes the drink to another level, adding elegant notes of vanilla, warm spice, and dried fruit that work naturally with the other ingredients.

Ingredients:
- 50 ml The Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask
- 25 ml sweet vermouth (e.g. Martini Rosso or Carpano Antica Formula)
- 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
- Ice cubes
- An orange peel or cocktail cherry for garnish
Instructions:
Chill your glass: Start by filling a martini glass or lowball glass with ice, or place it in the freezer for a few minutes so it is properly cold when you are ready to serve.
Combine the ingredients: In a shaker or mixing glass, add 50 ml The Macallan 12 YO Double Cask, 25 ml sweet vermouth, and 2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters.
Add ice: Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes and stir gently for about 20-30 seconds. Stirring rather than shaking chills and slightly dilutes the drink without watering it down too much.
Strain and serve: Empty the ice from your chilled glass, then strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the cold glass.
-
Garnish: Finish your Manhattan with either an orange peel (express the oils over the glass by giving it a gentle twist) or a classic cocktail cherry. Both add an extra touch to the aroma, flavour, and presentation.
Tips:
- If you prefer a slightly sweeter cocktail, add an extra splash of sweet vermouth.
- You can also try other bitters, such as orange bitters, to bring a different nuance to the drink.
